Sad but true: we often think that eating healthy means spending more money. But believe it or not, you can chomp down on nutritious goodies without cracking your bank balance. Yes, you heard it right! Eating healthy on a budget is something we can all do. Let’s walk you through how.
Plan and Prep
The secret to affordable, healthy eating is this: Plan and Prep. Make a meal plan for the week. Write out your shopping list and stick to it. Remember, don’t shop on an empty stomach. You’ll end up buying more stuff, not all of it healthy. Include lots of veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains on your list. What’s next? Prep your meals. Cut up veggies, cook some chicken, prepare some lentils. Now you’re ready for the week ahead.
Buy in Season
Love berries in winter? They’ll empty your wallet fast. Stick to buying fruits and veggies that are in season. They’re cheaper and tastier. Bonus: they likely traveled a smaller distance to get to your plate.
Farmer’s Market and Bulk Buys
Farmers’ markets are a great way to get fresh, local produce at a lower price. Also, consider buying kitchen staples like rice, pasta, and oats in bulk. It’s often cheaper, and it cuts down on packaging waste.
