Breathe Easy, Work Harder!
Did you know how you breathe can significantly influence your workout results? Many folks cranking away at our Crossfit Aurora Central classes don’t even notice how they’re breathing. But trust us- it’s more important than you think!
Why Is Breathing So Important?
Breathing is a natural process that all of us do without even thinking about it, right? But when you intentionally control your breathing during a workout, it can make significant differences to your performance and how you feel. Here’s the scoop:
- Supply of Oxygen: Proper breathing ensures your muscles get the oxygen they need. The more oxygen those muscles have, the better they work. This means you can workout harder and longer!
- Boosts Energy: Effective breathing techniques can help you to feel more energetic. Who couldn’t use a little extra energy on that final rep?
Proper Breathing Techniques
Now that we’ve established the importance of breathing, let’s chat about how you should be doing it. Obviously, the method will differ depending on the exercise. Generally speaking though, it’s good to exhale during the hardest part of the movement and inhale as you return to the starting position.
Nasal Breathing
You may also want to consider nasal breathing. This form of breathing involves inhaling and exhaling through your nose instead of your mouth. It increases your oxygen intake and can lead to improved workouts. It might feel awkward at first, but practice makes perfect!
In a Nutshell
Remember, the goal here is to breathe more efficiently to fuel your workouts, not to add extra stress. Practice these techniques during your everyday activities so they come naturally when it’s time to get your sweat on!
